1936 SS OFFICERS CHAINED DAGGER-COMPLETELY UNTOUCHED AND UNCLEANED.
A highly collectable example of the always in-demand, SS officers daggers. Introduced in 1936 for officer ranks only and replaced the 1933 version.
This is a dagger that has remained untouched for the past 70 years or so. Bought back as a souvenir in the USA, has remained on the same family since then. This dagger probably dates from the late 1930’s as it demonstrates mostly ‘RZM’ period manufacture. It retains an overall patina but no adverse issues to all of the metal work. Upper and lower crossguards, whisks a little grubby with age, retain all their plating etc. The solid ebony grip has a perfect SS button and central inset eagle which is slightly coppery in colour. The grip has no serious cracks but a few minor chips to the edges where it meets the metal crossguards, and a small chip missing from the lower left edge. The scabbard is very nice and retains all of the original ‘anodised’ finish! Lower scabbard fitting is quite dark with patina. The all important chain is a Type II variety and shows great detail with the links showing quite a lot of the darker finish to the recesses. It looks very good!! One reverse link has the SS inspection stamp. The blade is in remarkable condition and has no issues as far as I can see. It’s in near mint condition with all crossgraining polish visible and a clear, crisp etched motto.
I actually love daggers like this, and whist a mint example is spectacular, this shows its history in an unabashed way. With mint examples fetching over £6500+, this represents true value for money, for an unaltered and unmessed with example.
