A QUITE RARE MAKER EARLY SA THATS NOT BEEN KEPT WELL - MOST INTERESTING!!!

This is an example of what CAN happen to a dagger if it’s not kept properly! I’ve had one example like this presented to me before, and it had a similar story. This is an early SA dagger by MALCH & AMBRONN. Trademark is a man operating a water pump. Rated 4/10 on rarity scale. The dagger is totally untouched and not been cleaned -ever! All the nickel fittings have a deep yellow patina and pommel nut never moved. However…….it was kept in a garden outhouse until found recently during an estate sale. It’s obviously been subject to quite damp conditions which has affected the exterior. The steel blade tang has rusted and expanded inside the wood grip causing the grip to burst open in two places, on the front and on the back. These cracks run the complete length of the grip and are wide enough to see inside and see the tang itself!! Amazingly there is no loss of wood and the grip has just opened up like a ripe banana! It is all in place and not loose. The grip is completely help together by the top and bottom crossguards! The SA button and the nickel eagle are both in place and untouched. The scabbard has light surface rust but on the front and reverse, still has most of the brown anodising. The blade has SURVIVED in virtually mint condition. There was some old grease around the top of the blade shoulders, and this has sealed it against any moisture. The Alles fur Deutchland motto is deep and crisp with all the darkening in the lettering. The crossgrain polished finish is 98% intact throughout the whole of the blades surface. Crazy! The reverse riccasso has the makers trademark as described above. A real piece of ‘souvenir history’ and is a talking point on its own.
