A RARE BEAST HERE! A 1933 SS MAN’S or OFFICERS DAGGER WITH PARTIAL ERASED ROHM INSCRIPTION & VERTICAL HANGER!

These daggers are always in demand and ones as early as this, with evidence of a Rohm inscription, are highly desirable. A great looking dagger from the outside. All nickel fittings with a really nice solid ebony black grip. There are two very small chips at the top left edge, under the top crossguard, but they ARE quite small. SS enamel runes button is perfect, as is the nickel grip eagle. The lower crossguard is marked with the Roman numeral ‘I’. The scabbard is almost fully covered with the ORIGINAL lacquer over the black anodising on the obverse surface. The reverse has all the anodising, but little of the lacquer remaining. The lower scabbard ball is a little squashed. This dagger has its ORIGINAL early leather vertical hanger which has been there for ever. Has unmarked nickel snout-nosed clip, covered in patina. The leather cross strap has an oval buckle and still has the little retaining loop! I have not removed the hanger, and will not do so. It won’t have any markings inside as it’s too early (pre-RZM). Remember, this dagger was made in 1933 or early 1934 as Rohm was murdered in 1934.
The blade is very presentable indeed. The motto is deep and clear and much crossgraining remains. The reverse has been deeply ground and then polished to remove the Rohm inscription. This has nearly dissapesred along with a bit of the RICHARD HERDER oval trademark. But most of that is intact.
The first 10 or so letters of the dedication inscription ‘In etc etc……’ are still visible though, just lending to its history and originality.
A great, historical dagger, typical of an erased (partial) Rohm. Not done by the factory, but by an enthusiastic amateur perhaps even the owner himself!
