THIRD REICH FIREMAN’S SAW-BACK BAYONET WITH ORIGINAL PORTAPEE AND FROG.

A fine example of Fire dress ‘sidearm’. Not really bayonets as there is no mortice slot to affix to a rifle, but they are known as ‘bayonets’ nonetheless. In near mint condition this long bayonet has 100% nickel plated grip and S crossguard. This is an early piece as the hilt etc is solid steel/nickelnplated. Black chequered grips are fine. Scabbard has the original mint black factory paint and there is also an original black leather parade frog. The bayonet is complete with the original and correct Fireman’s parade PORTEPEE. Black leather straps with silver bullion wires. Acorn ball with alternation silver/red bullion lines and a carmine red insert to the ball end.
The blade is in mint condition with full nickel plate throughout and no wear. The blade upper edge has the saw-back teeth running along the full length.
There is no maker on the riccasso.
Whist a Fire Sidearm was required for all Firemen, the option of a saw-back blade would have been an ‘extra-cost’ option payable by the original owner. Therefore not many firemen bothered to pay the extra 60 Reichmarks or so, therefore making these daggers/bayonets quite rare.
