EARLY SS ‘33 DAGGER BY ROBERT KLAAS COMPLETE WITH EARLY VERTICAL HANGER.
Always a very popular collectable. In fact ANY SS dagger in good condition is much harder to find now. Early sold nickel fittings, upper and lower crossguards etc. Lower crossguard is stamped with the Roman numeral ‘I’ as well as the original owners initials ‘X &R’ which are scratched into the surface. A great solid ebony grip with no discernible cracks or damage. Just a few age surface ‘bumps’. Perfect SS runes button with nickel grip eagle. Nickel fittings to the scabbard. Very small dent to the lower ball. All screws present. The scabbard body has nearly all the original black paint which has crazed and spidered in many places. However, I think this is an ORIGINAL re-paint as you can see tiny areas where the anodised surface underneath is visible. I may be wrong. However, the paint looks 100% original and suits this dagger perfectly. There is an original black leather vertical hanger attached to the upper fitting and through the scabbard ring. It’s been on there a long time!! I did carefully take it off and it is marked RZM 48/34 along the leather spine, so actually matches the dagger perfectly. The blade is extremely clean, has a lot of crossgraining and the motto is very deep and crisp. Letters have all the background grey. The circular Robert Klaas trademark of ‘kissing kranes’ is also in perfect condition on the reverse.
(The vertical hanger is a £500 item on its own!)
