RAD HEWER BY SCARCER MAKER- CARL JULIUS KREBS.

Always a very impressive edged weapon. Designed for the RAD to look ‘useful’ as they were the fix it labour force! I’ve never seen pictures of them being used for ‘work’, but I’ve seen plenty used as a hammer or similar. Carried by ALL ranks of the RAD until 1937, when a much more ‘dainty’ dagger was designed and issued to officers. This is a slightly later piece in my opinion as the fittings are all plated with a bright nickel finish. Very nice stag horn grips. An excellent scabbard with most of the original black paint. Very good upper and lower scabbard fittings. The lower one especially is in mint condition with no dents or damage and 100% bright plating.
There is a factory fault with the upper hanger fitting. It’s been welded to the scabbard upside down, with the parallel slanted loop facing downwards. Just shows they weren’t perfect and things did slip through. The hanger clip still fits though (I’ve tried one) so not really as issue, just an anomaly. The large slab sided bowie blade is in near mint condition with no sharpening. The RAD motto Arbeit Adelt is deep and clear. On the reverse riccasso is the small oval trademark for Carl Julius Krebs with a K in the middle with a crown over the top.
The blade is also marked GES GESCH and the RADJ letters in a triangle.
Not a common maker and a very decent dagger.
