THIRD REICH NAVAL OFFICERS DRESS/PARADE SWORD WITH ORIGINAL KNOT.
Swords similar to this were worn by the Imperial German navy, then into the Weimar period and then from 1933 into the Third Reich era. Sometimes the Weimar produced swords were worn into the Third Reich period, and to be honest, there is nothing much to tell them apart. This one is DEFINITELY a Third Reich issue one. Two things differentiate it. The F.W.HOLLER trademark and the longer, silver bullion sword knot. It is a lovely sword and has not been cleaned or abused. All brass construction, it has a highly detailed lions head (no glass eyes). Perfect cream celluloid grip with triple, unbroken brass wire wrap. The centre wire being the trademark Holler ‘springy wire’. Both front and rear clamshells fold flat for storage etc. The sword has its original 49cm bullion portapee which is tied in the most complicated and intricate knot around the grip. A work of art! The reverse clamshell has the issue numbers O3234 stamped into it, as these were accountable to individual officers, ‘O’ is for Ostsee, so this was probably issued in Hamberg or Bremerhaven. The leather scabbard is in excellent condition and has the 3 brass, gilded fittings. The top two have carrying rings. The lower one has the built-in drag. The plain nickel plated blade is in mint condition and is the classic piped back form. A super looking sword and much harder to find than most other Third Reich swords.
