VERY EARLY DLV FLYERS KNIFE BY ‘BALLOON MAN’!
This is a great example of the earliest produced DLV Flyers knife. Made by Gebruder Heller with their very distinctive ‘balloon man’ trademark. This dagger has remained uncleaned for 70+ years!! The nickel fittings have toned down to a dark grey/black colour which shows the high content level of silver in the fittings. Super dark blue Morrocan leather is virtually perfect apart from a very small portion on the lower part of the scabbard next to the lower fitting. Crossguard enamel swastikas are perfect and undamaged. The end of the crossguard arm is stamped with a ‘K’ and the throat of the scabbard has the stamped winged Icarus mark of the DLV as well as a small Waffenampt stick bird with numbers!! The blade is very good, not stone mint as it has a couple of old finger marks, which could be cleaned off with effort. Lots of crossgrain polish present. The blue leather blade buffer is intact. The blade seems to have been in old brown oil or wax at some time, and there is some residue of this under the crossguard butt. The original brown leather single strap and nickel clip is present. It has shrunk a little from age, but is all there.
