A VERY DECENT EXAMPLE OF AN EARLY DLV FLYERS DAGGER.

This little flyers knives are one of my favourites. The Teutonic/Art Deco design of the downswept crossguard, continued with the design on the 1st Luft dagger and the Luftwaffe sword.
This is a proper DLV marked dagger, so would have been issued and worn by officers in the DeutchvLuft Verband. The ‘volunteer’ German airforce started illegally by Hitler in the early 1930’s, in contravention to the Versailles agreement banning Germany having some armed forces. Hitler got around this by forming a volunteer GLIDER organisation to train pilots etc. Enough history!!
This is an all early solid nickel dagger. It has all the original very dark blue leather to the grip and scabbard and also has the ORIGINAL small leather hanger with snap clip permanently attached to the scabbard ring. The enamel on the crossguard swastikas is perfect with no damage whatsoever. Lower scabbard ball has a very slight dent to the bottom. The crossguard wing is marked with a letter K. (Not all crossguards are marked thus, some have no marking at all and some have a Waffenampt stamp) The blade is very nice, uncleaned and still has crossgrain polish etc. The maker on this is the BALOON MAN Gebruder Heller, one of the most desirable makers. The very tip of the blade has a VERY slight ‘kink’. Overall a lovely looking dagger.
