A very good looking dagger that seems to be in virtually mint condition. The 23cm portapee has a little wear to it, but that’s about it. Very bright and clean fittings with no age to them. Perfect pommel and crossguard. Off-white celluloid grip which I think is a plaster filled type. There is an original 23cm bullion PORTEPEE tied correctly around the bottom of the grip. EARLY ALL BRASS NAVY DAGGER BY WKC.
A nice example of a standard Third Reich naval officers dagger from the mid-late 30’s. Nice quality all brass fittings. Crossguard and pommel are typical WKC. Cream celluloid grip with twisted single wire. Grip is nearly perfect but has two small spider stress cracks to the surface on the reverse next to the crossguard. A very nice example of the Luftwaffe 1st Pattn dagger in aluminium as worn by Senior NCO’s etc.
Whilst introduced in 1935 and then only worn by Officers, the introduction of the 2nd Pattn dagger in 1937 enabled just NCO’s to wear the 1st Pattn dagger, while Officers changed over to the 2nd Pattn. The series of RLB daggers are known for their noticeable Art Deco design the the hilt and crossguard. RARLY ‘33 SS DAGGER BY BOKER WITH TRIPLE HANGER.
It is really good to get an early example of an SS dagger by this maker. BOKER is highly sort after, especially in America. The dagger remains in a great uncleaned state, with traces of green verdigris on the nickel fittings where the leather has been in contact with it over a period of time. AN ERASED SA ROHM DAGGER WITH A STORY!!
I do like a story with a piece I buy, but the old adage goes ‘buy the item, not the story!’ However, this one seems to pan out.
