HITLER YOUTH KNIFE WITH FULL MOTTO BUT NO MAKER.

An interesting HJ knife bought back from my US trip. HJ knives are much more scarce here and are proving very popular with collectors. Like SA daggers, they are collectable by maker as there were dozens of manufacturers. The new books by the Canadian dealers, LakeSide Traders, will only boost our knowledge and popularity of this subject. This is a HJ knife in great condition. Is a mid-period production and prior to the 1938 motto-on-blade cut off date. Very good nickel plated fittings. Original factory paint still present. Leather belt loop and cross strap are there, but the pommel cross strap has lost its popper, which has pulled out of the leather. Blade in very good shape, seems to have been ‘polished’ with a little wire wool or sandpaper at some time, as there are a fair number of scratches to the surfaces. The motto has remained quite clear and deep though. Blade has a riccasso, so puts it in a mid-range production time. However…….and most unusually, there is no maker evident on the blade at all! As hard as I’ve looked I can see no evidence of it. Perhaps it was very lightly etched on the reverese and has been ‘polished off’ at some time in the past? I don’t know. Anyway, despite this, it’s a super HJ in all other ways.
