AN EARLY SA DAGGER. RARE MAKER. ‘J.DIRLAM’.
A very nice example of an early SA dagger with yet another maker I’ve never heard of! All nickel fittings, unclaimed for quite a while so nice patina. Mid-colour wood grip with interesting dark tones to the reverse. No damage. As button and nickel eagle. Lower crossguard marked with Gau Nrh ‘Niederrhein’. Scabbard is wonderful. Has all the brown ‘anodised’ finish and 75% of the original lacquer over the top.
Blade is very near mint with a couple of minor finger smudges. Remaining has all factory crossgrain polish. The maker trademark of a ‘hand stamp’ is etched to the rear riccasso. J. DIRLAM & SOHNE SOLINGEN underneath. This is a pretty rare maker, rated 8/10, so nice an unusual.
