A great looking dagger which walked into a local shop and has been together since the war when bought home as a souvenir. Untouched and uncleaned since then. The dagger has a lovely tangerine coloured solid celluloid grip with springy aluminium wire. All metal fittings are in the ‘airplane grey/gilt’ finish, including the metal work on the original hangers. The original 23cm bullion knot is tied tightly in place and has never been removed or undone. It is slightly frayed in the swing area etc but still very sound. This is a Carl Eickhorn dagger and has the usual pommel traits etc. However, it has the much rarer and more unusual SMALL 1935-42 squirrel trademark stamped into the riccasso. It is unknown why Eickhorn used this small stamped trademark at the same time as the larger etched one. Blade is in near mint condition with just a few tiny age spots. Hangers are the best de-luxe types, with metal swing tops and de-luxe ‘push up’ lower clips. The top snap clip is in fact one normally seen on RLB officers leather hangers, as it has a pebbled finish rather than oakleaves etc. I have had these ‘swap over’ parts many times before, so can only assume they made an error at the assembly, or had run out of the Luftwaffe fitting and used these instead. Anyway, completely original, so a good talking point. The blue/grey velvet backings have a little wear on them where it rubbed against the uniform jacket when hung from a pocket fitting.
Nice looking dagger.
