VERY RARE LONG ETCHED ‘SERVICE TIME’ DRESS BAYONET BY E.P & S.

Of all the ‘Memory of my service time’etched bayonets produced. The ones by Ernst Pack are the most desirable and collectible. They made a wonderful series of specific etched bayonets, depicting scenes from army and Luftwaffe life.
I’ve only had a few in my collecting career and all have sold to discerning collectors. This long dress bayonet features a PAK anti-tank gun crew manning their gun. Listed in the Pavk catalogue as Nr.2 Panzerabwehrv(anti-tank unit) The 5 man crew are manning their gun which is facing down the blade towards the tip. The ‘Zur Erinnering an meine dienstzei’ etch is in the middle followed by oak leaves etc at the end of the panel. The panel has one small dark ‘pit’ in the middle of one soldier, where the internal scabbard runners have rested. The reverse blade is plain and the EP&S trademark (a little feint) is stamped into the riccasso. The nickel plated hilt shows some lifting to the finish. There is a green felt plug in the mortise slot. This bayonet has a very nice set of stag horn grips, which along with the green felt plug, would indicate that the original owner was in a Jäger Regt. Scabbard is steel, has lost some of the original black paint revealing the blued steel underneath. It has its original black leather frog.
Whist this is not a bayonet in mint condition, it is very rare and worthy of adding to any etched bayonet collection, as finding another will be a very hard task! I have priced it accordingly, but in perfect condition these bayonets fetch over $2000 here and in the USA.
This exact etch is clearly pictured on page 153 of Wayne Techet’s wonderful bayonet book.
