A VERY NICE EXAMPLE OF A RZM PERIOD 1936 SS CHAINED DAGGER.
Whist collectors strive to buy a nice, early SS chained dagger, this history of these pieces follows with time of production too. Introduced in 1936 these daggers were made with nickel plated fittings etc. However, as time progresses and war shortages took hold, all SS daggers and all SA daggers changed in the materials they were made with. The RZM also took tighter control and standardised construction and materials. This is a near mint example of a RZM period SS chained. Crossguards are plated alloy, chain is nickel plated steel and scabbard fittings are nickel plated over steel base. The condition of all these items is really nice. No lifting to the plating on both crossguard. A perfect black soot grip with perfect SS enamel button and nickel grip eagle. Scabbard has very good plated fittings. The scabbard body is the anodised (not painted) type, and therefore has two screws to the middle chain fixing. The anodising is near perfect. Wonderful detail to the chain itself which still retains dark black background behind the sculls etc on the chain links. This is a Type 2 chain with the bevelled top 2 retaining links that attach to the belt clip. The blade is in beautiful condition throughout. No maker mark of course, but crossgrain polish throughout and darkening behind the lettering.
Great looking dagger!
