Over the years I have collected and been in this business, I have had a few German edged weapons, that were used by us or the Americans AFTER the war for presentation or commemorative purposes. There were obviously a lot of these about and therefore why not use them? In all cases they were devoid of the swastika, which either was never on the piece initially or they removed them. This is the case here. The sword is an Eickhorn NCO’s or other ranks parade sword and has a fine plain nickel plated hilt. No insignia at all. The black celluloid grip is fine and has triple wire wrap. Standard black sword scabbard. It’s the BLADE that is fascinating. There is an early seal oval Eickhorn trademark stamped into the blade. On the top portion of the obverse blade is an etched panel in blue/black. The panel reads “ IN MEMORY OF PRIVATE SIDNEY SPECTOR WHO MADE THE SUPREME SACRIFICE IN WWII”. In front of the dedication and deeply stamped into the blade is who it’s from “. “
I will leave the new/next owner to carry out the full research on the two names mentioned on the blade, but I’ve had a quick look and Pvt Spector was with the US Airborne Troops and was KIA September 1944.
I am sure much more can be discovered about him and from the donor.
