AN UNUSUAL AND RARE WW1 GERMAN FIGHTING KNIFE WITH STEEL HILT.
Part of a large collection that has just surfaced. This is a very decent WW1 German fighting knife by Ernst Busch SOLINGEN. These period fighting knives were all seemingly privately purchased and there was a hugh market in SOLINGEN with manufacturers trying to attract as many sales as possible. This dagger retains most of the black finish over the steel hilt as well as the black finish to the scabbard. It amazingly has the original leather hanger, belt loop and cross strap with intact popper! This is 110 years old and still supple! Blade is in virtually mint condition. Has not been sharpened and retains the crossgrain polish marks. The riccasso is stamped with an Imperial proof mark on one side and the makers name Ernst Busch on the other. This type of dagger is pictured on page 41 of German Combat knives 1914-1945.
