IMPERIAL GERMAN WW1 FIGHTING KNIFE.

This is a really good, and well preserved private purchase fighting knife from WW1 Germany. Considering this piece is now a true antique being about 110 years old, it has remained in remarkable condition. Grooved wood grip with no splits or damage, steel tubular scabbard with most of the original finish. It even has ALL of the original leather belt loop, cross strap and popper!! Amazing as the leather is usually the first thing to dry out and break off. The blade is in very good shape and very bright and clean. It has been sharpened at some time, but then again who wants a blunt fighting knife! There is not actual makers mark on the riccasso, but it is stamped with a small letter and Imperial crown above. Probable a period proof mark.
All these WW1 fighting knives seem to be private purchases and there is a vast array of different types. This one is pictured in the Fighting Knives reference book on page 38.
