A TRANSITIONAL SA DAGGER BY VERY RARE MAKER H.A. HERB A.G. M7/69.
I have to admit I’ve never heard of this maker before, and apparently it’s very rare. So ideal for the TYPE collectors out there. The dagger is a ‘transitional’ SA and has a mixture of older and RZM era parts. In overall near mint condition. It has solid nickel upper and lower crossguards (not Gau marked of course!) A beautiful mint darker wood grip with nickel eagle and perfect dark brown enamel SA button.
Scabbard has RZM period nickel plated steel fittings. Scabbard body is very interesting as although it has most of the original brown SA paint, it has worn off on one side and the edges, revealing factory black paint underneath! So they made NSKK daggers too! Blade is in mint condition with all crossgrain polish and nice grey background to the Alles fur Deutchland lettering. The reverse has the large, thick RZM circle with code underneath M7/69/38. So made in 1938.
The H. A. Erbe AG, Metallwarenfabrik, was located in Schmalkalden in Thuringen. The first record of the Erbe firm can be found in 1895 when it registered a centaur and tree trademark. Over the next fifteen years, Erbe registered five additional "Erbe" type trademarks. In the 1930's, Erbe was listed as a manufacturer of German nickel-silver and silver-plated cutlery. During the Third Reich, after Erbe received its RZM M7/69 code (c.1938), Erbe manufactured minimal SA/NSKK daggers (perhaps 1000) and perhaps Army daggers.
