EARLY NAVAL DAGGER BY ALCOSO - TRANSITIONAL PIECE.

This is one of those daggers that started life as an early 1919 or 1929 piece, was used just after WW1 and into Weimar period. It was then used in the early 1930’s in the Third Reich period and had the ‘ball’ pommel replaced by a Third Reich eagle. It has a cream celluloid grip with twisted brass wire. Early Alcoso crossguard with central release button and a ‘star’ symbol on one side of the crossguard. Only Alcoso pieces have this. The scabbard is a beautiful early type with knotted rope type scabbard sleeves with ring hangers. Unfortunately it’s been a bit battered over the years and shows multiple dents and bumps. The blade is a typical early sailing ship etch variety, it shows a fair bit of age and discolouration, details quite hard to see. . The early 1920’s Alcoso trademark is on the riccasso. A good display piece demonstrating the changes navy daggers went through. Priced accordingly.
