A fantastic example from the Police/SS sword collection I now have. The SS Officer Candidate sword seems to be a non-official degen and private purchase. They are always part SS sword and part Police sword. They have nickel plated fittings throughout, normal type D guard but the grip is identical to a SS officers degen grip, but without the circular SS button inset in the middle. This one has a beautiful set of SS runes expertly engraved into the pommell. Beautifully done and obviously requested by the original owner. The scabbard is a standard police/SS sword type with nickel plated lower drag and mint black paint. The blade is in mint condition and has a perfect slightly dull finish. There is no maker on this piece, as is quite common, especially with most SS officer degens. However, engraved on the langet are the original owners initials which look to be ‘A R’. These are beautifully done in typical Germanic Gothic capitals. There are a few similar examples pictured in Tom Wittmann’s excellent SS book. There is a white leather blade buffer. There is a reproduction SS bullion sword knot wrapped around the hilt. A nice copy and adds to the look of the sword. As with most SS swords, this is quite long, with a 31.5” blade. A great example and not an easy to find sword at all.
