MOST UNUSUAL AND RARE LATER VARIATION TYPE HJ DAGGER BY WKC.

I’ve had these HJ knives on and off over the past 40 years. It wasn’t until I spoke to the late Tom Johnson many years ago, and he pointed me in the right direction, that I understood what they were. He pictures one in the latter part of his reference book series. There is also another, better picture of one in one of the other volumes, but I can’t find it at the moment.
These unusual HJ daggers are all the same. We think produced very late on in the war. Most are in mint condition and have never been issued. They have a standard type hilt with nickel plated fittings and normal chequered grips and HJ diamond. The scabbards are also standard HJ steel types. However, they ALL have the following characteristics. The blade is a thinner, ‘Bowie’ type with clipped top false edge and much sharper profile. Unique. The leather used on these daggers is also exactly the same. It has a very prominent and much larger pebbled finish. Pigskin perhaps?? The hanging strap and cross loop are made of this, but SO IS THE BLADE BUFFER or WASHER!! These are really unique HJ daggers and should be in every HJ collection. The picture in Tom Johnson’s books shows these with a WKC paper factory packet, the daggers are not marked, so this is the only proof they are made by them.
The blades are not ‘cut down’ HJ blades but rather old stock blades from earlier WKC fighting knives (it seems). I have had one many years ago, that you could just see the top portion the the WKC knights helmet trademark just visible under the crossguard and top part of the blade riccasso.
