A SCARCE EXAMPLE OF A LONG SINGLE ETCHED BAYONET BY RICHARD HERDER.
In mint condition, this is a lovely bayonet. The exact one appears on page 222 of Wayne Tychets excellent book. This one has all of the nickel plating to the hilt and crossguard. Perfect black paint to the scabbard. Blade is a wonderful thing to behold and is in full mint condition. The etch has the outstretched wing eagle and swastika with ‘memory of my service time’ underneath. It has a border which has what Wayne calls ‘potted plants’ at each end. The reverse riccasso has the Richard Abr.Herder name and diamond trademark.
This is not an etch I have encountered before and Wayne classifies it as ‘scarce’.
