HUGE IMPERIAL OR WEIMAR SHOOTING CUTLASS!
Perhaps one of the longest cutlasses I’ve had. Measures 26“ overall with a 19” blade. All shooting classes of this type are long and thin. Even the shorter lived Third Reich Shooting Associstion cutlass is similar to this.
All brass fittings with fluted clamshell and up/down deers hoof crossguard. A lovely thin stag horn grip with brass crossed rifles pinned in the middle. Very long scabbard in black leather with brass upper and lower smooth fittings.
Blade is lovely. In mint condition with profuse etching on both sides. As with most Shooting blades, and I’ve no idea why, the first 1” or so of the blade has the crossgrain polish go across the blade surface, horizontally, not vertically. You can find this anomaly on all original Shooting blades. There is no maker mark on this piece. There is an original brown leather frog, which seems to be original to this piece, which is slid onto the top fitting. Frog is in excellent condition.
If you collect or are interested in Shooting pieces, an ideal one for the collection.
