A WONDERFUL EXAMPLE OF AN EARLY SA DAGGER BY EICKHORN WITH FULLY ERASED ROHM DEDICATION AND A COMPLETE 3-PIECE HANGER.
This is another little piece of history here. A near mint early SA dagger, made in 1933/34. It was ordered Ernst Rohm to be given to his devoted followers, and issued to those in the He Gau area (HESSEN). This Gau received approximately 5500 pieces. These daggers only had a very short life as in 1934 Rohm was killed by Hitler and he ordered all traces of Rohm to be removed!!! This included the ROHM dedication on these daggers. This one has had the complete dedication professionally removed from the reverse of the blade and re-polished. Beautifully done, but they have caught the very top part of the early, small Eickhorn trademark. There are also 2 tiny areas where small portions of the dedication are still visible!
All solid nickel fittings remain uncleaned.Lower crossguard has a number ‘5’ stamped underneath. We think these are Eickhorn ‘inspection’ or assembling workers numbers and you can find 0-9 on most (but not all) early Eickhorn daggers. No evidence of the tang nut ever being removed. Perfect medium wood grip with nickel eagle and enamel SA button. There is the original 3 piece hanger attached to the top scabbard ring. The scabbard body retains all of the brown anodising and 95% of the factory lacquer. The lower scabbard ball is undamaged. All screws intact and unturned. Blade is in stone mint condition, with full cross grain polish. A really, really good example of this historic dagger.
