NAVY DAGGER WITH PORTAPEE BY ALCOSO with SAILING SHIP BLADE. .
Alcoso navy daggers are quite rare. They were a prominent manufacturer but their navy daggers do not turn up very often. They have some distinctive features. The reverse crossguard features a ‘star’ motif cast in the brass, not an anchor like other makers. They also use much smaller diameter throat screws, which can also be seen on all the other daggers they make (army, Government etc) This dagger has nice all brass fittings throughout. Pommel is a typical Alcoso eagle. Perfect cream celluliod grip which has its original 42cm portapee tied in place. Scabbard has a few surface dents from use, mainly on one of the lower edges, but you can also see quite a lot of the original fire gilding along the edges too. The blade is lovely and in near mint condition. The nickel plated surface is perfect and the SAILING SHIP etch is deep and clear with dark grey outlines. This Alcoso dagger carries the later ‘sideways’ Alcoso trademark which runs along the riccasso and has a small set of scales, followed by the Alcoso name in slant italics. Not a common trademark, especially with the sailing ship blade.
A very nice dagger overall and perhaps one for the ‘types’ collectors out there?
