The company of FA HELBIG were the only manufacturer of these daggers. HELBIG also made early NSFK and DLV daggers, as well as Luftwaffe swords and very rarely SS ‘33 daggers!! Their oval trademark was ALWAYS very lightly etched onto the blades. In some cases, so lightly it’s nearly impossible to see!
These little NSFK daggers are quite unique as everything apart from the blade) is made of aluminium. The new ‘wonder’ metal. The grip and scabbard body are pebbled in finish and then painted dark blue to resemble leather. Very good too! The pommel and crossguard are cast aluminium as well as upper and lower scabbard fittings. The upper scabbard fitting has the original owners name of EH Walt stamped into the surface. The scabbard throat also has the little NSFK ‘flying man’ stamped into one corner. The crossguard has a central swastika on both sides, but instead of being an enamel inlay, these are cast into the surface and then ‘anodised’ or ‘blued’. This dagger is not mint but totally original and untouched. The blue paint on the scabbard and grip has rubbed a little, showing the aluminium colour underneath. The integral hanger, which is permanently attached the carrying ring, has lost the inner part of the aluminium clip (could be replaced if so desired). The blade is very clean and bright, no sharpening, but has some surface blemishes here and there. The oval HELBIG trademark is visible, but feint as I mentioned before.
In mint condition these are £1200-1400. This one is priced accordingly with the points I have mentioned taken into consideration.
