A ‘CRACKLE FINISH’. NSFK FLYERS DAGGER BY HELBIG.

F.A.HELBEIG were the ONLY company to make this dagger in this manner. The Helbig company made other daggers too. An early all nickel version of the DLV/NSFK dagger as well as other more common daggers. They even made a SS ‘33 mans dagger which is extremely rare to find. These NSFK daggers are unique as they are made completely from aluminium (except the blade of course). The grip and scabbard body are cleverly cast in a rough finish, and then painted to resemble leather. The pommel and crossguard are cast in brushed aluminium. The crossguard has the familiar small swastikas on each side, but rather made in enamel and inset, they are a deep blue anodised finish. The scabbard has a permanently attached small leather hanger, but always with an aluminium snap clip.
The blade is a standard DLV type, twin edged. The Helbig trademark and name is etched to the blade riccasso, but always very lightly. This particular dagger is in mint condition, with all of the original paint finish and a mint blade. The top scabbard throat has a little NSFK ‘winged man’ (Icarus) stamped into the surface. Very nice example.
