AN EARLY ALL NICKEL LUFTWAFFE 1st PATTN WITH UNIT MARKED BLADE.
A lovely text book example of an early 1st Pattn Luftwaffe dagger carried by all officers. In the mid-1930’s. The 2nd pattn dagger was then introduced for officer ranks and this type of dagger was worn by serving NCO’s. All nickel pommel and crossguard with inlaid brass swastikas. Dark blue leather to the grip and scabbard body in excellent condition. Triple twisted grip wire. All solid nickel chain permanently attached to the upper and middle scabbard fittings. A beautiful mint nickel plated blade with the maker mark of SMF with the ‘Seated King’ trademark. On the obverse side of the blade the original Luftwaffe squadron have stamped their issue markings ‘III Ft.154.27’ This relates to the following ‘would relate to the 3rd Gruppe of Fliegergruppe 154 Faßberg, This Fliegergruppe, which was established in October 1934, was based in Faßberg before being transferred to Hannover in October 1936. In May 1939 it was renamed, becoming 'Kampfgeschwader 27 Boelcke. At this time the 3rd Gruppe of this bomber squadron was based in Delmenhorst.’
A nice bit of history to go with the dagger!
