A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF A 1936 SS OFFICERS DEGEN.

Always an impressive piece, and unlike the daggers, all SS officers dagens/swords were AWARDED and then presented. Not every officer was entitled to wear one. This is the much more ‘common’ slightly later version which had steel fittings which were nickel plated throughout. A nice D guard hilt which shows some slight wear and useage. Top pommel cap unscrews to show the tang nut cover intact etc. A very nice black ebony wood grip with the horizontal parallel nickel grip wire. The SS button is firmly fixed to the centre. There is a tiny chip in the grip on the reverse near the pommel. Very small. Scabbard has most of the original black paint intact and nickel plated steel fittings upper and lower. The scabbard throat as well as under the hilt crossguard are stamped with the little SS ‘ Kulturzeichen’ stamp. The mint blade is completely plain and devoid of any maker, which is VERY common on SS dagens, especially the later ones. The original white/cresm leather sword buffer is in place. The sword is quite long (never seen a short one!!) measuring 39 1/2 “ overall with a 33“ MINT blade.
