IMPERIAL GERMAN NAVAL SWORD WITH HAMMERED SCABBARD.
A true antique now as these dress weapons from WW1 etc are over 100 years old. This is a decent example of a dress naval sword used by an Imperial naval officer. All brass fittings. The lions head hilt has great detail. Cream solid grip with original triple wire wrap. No damage! This sword has front and read folding langets. The larger front one features the navy anchor with an Imperial crown above. The folding reverse one has the original owners name in jeweller engraved script. It looks to be ‘Trebborn’, so further research could be made on this if desired.
The original leather scabbard is in excellent condition considering the age. It has three scabbard fittings, the top two with large carrying rings. These fittings all have a lovely ‘hammered’ finish, hand done. The reverse top fitting is missing the small brass ‘pin’ which locks onto the hilt fitting. Stops the sword falling out! However, it fits very snugly in the scabbard, so no chance of that! The blade is a typical pipe backed variety. It’s a little grey but has no pitting or damage. Each side is profusely etched with scrolls and naval motifs etc etc. Could benefit from a careful clean, which may bring out the details/features better.
An historical sword and competitively priced.
