A SUPERB DLV/LUFTWAFFE TRANSITIONAL VERY EARLY DAGGER WITH DISTRIBUTOR.
These is an almost identical dagger to this featured in Tom Wittmanns Luftwaffe book on page 79. This is a very early 1st Pattn Luftwaffe dagger that has the early DLV dagger type soft scabbard with staple held fittings. It is in remarkable condition and if you are a Luftwaffe collector, would represent an important part of dagger history. The early very long 55cm daggers were the very first Luftwaffe pieces from around 1934. These proved to be too long for practical use, so were shortened for the next type. However, some makers chose to continue to use the early scabbard types until a solid version was used. This is a prime example of one of these. Super early solid nickel fittings throughout. All have toned down somewhat due to the high silver content. Perfect Luftwaffe blue leather with no damage or wear. Grip has triple twisted wire wrap. Scabbard has triple fittings and a soft body. The three fittings are held onto the body with elliptical headed staples. The solid nickel chain is lovely with an early snap clip and the very unique ‘S’ clips attacking the chain to the scabbard rings (see page 37 of Luftwaffe book for similar). The blade is the thing here. Solid nickel plated, it is in mint condition. There is no maker on this piece (although it’s probably a Weyersberg) instead it has the unique distributor mark/name of ALBERT KUHL MUNSTER. As I mentioned above there is a picture of a similar one in the Wittmann book. Albert Kuhl was a large uniform retailer in Munster. This dagger was therefore ordered by a customer from them, and they sourced it from one of the large dagger manufacturers. Very rare to find this. Dagger is a beauty. (I have one similar, otherwise I would keep it myself!!)
