WONDERFUL VERY EARLY LEATHER HANGER FOR RAD HEWER.
This is the type of hanger used by the very earliest of RAD hewers in 1933/34. Designed to suspend the dagger from the large scabbard side loop, they soon found that the dagger was too heavy and quickly wore through the leather lower strap. The hangers were redesigned and had a lower wide metal snap clip instead. To this end these early hangers that have survived are very rare. This is a very good example that has been used but still remains perfectly useable. It has also been period altered by having an extra leather ‘flap’ added to the rear of main hanger. This would have spread the weight a little and stopped the heavy dagger rubbing against the uniform. Leather is in excellent condition and the adjusting small strap has a middle buckle the same as one on an early SA short hanger. Would be perfect on an early RAD dagger, especially perhaps a FULL STAG example.
