A MOST INTERESTING ‘UNTOUCHED’ NSKK TRANSITIONAL DAGGER.

This hobby always throws up something different and whist on this dagger the differences are subtle, they are what they are. Never been in a collection and purchased directly from a house clearance, it has not been touched since. This is what we call a ‘transitional’ piece where one type of production period was ending and a different one began. This dagger exhibits both some early features and then some later ones. A nice undamaged wood grip with a nickel eagle. Nice enamel SA button. The crossguards are different and have always been so. Top one is solid nickel, lower one is aluminium! Both fit perfectly. The factory black painted scabbard shows a little surface age to the paint, but it is all there. Upper and lower fittings are nickel plated steel. There is an original short leather hanger and clip which shows some oxidation but the hanger has been there for ever as the leather is too stiff to remove. The blade is quite nice, some very light surface ‘staining’ to the lower half but it just looks a little cloudy really. Crossgrain visible on 50%. SA motto is clear and well etched. The reverse has an unusual double makers mark. That of Carl Julius Krebs along with the RZM circle and code M7/5. Julius Krebs is not a common maker at all and the fact this has both RZM and makers trademark, puts it in the ‘transitional’ bracket.
An excellent one for type collectors. Not mint condition but priced accordingly.
