EARLY EICKHORN SA DAGGER WITH FULLY ERASED ROHM BLADE (AND MOST OF THE TRADEMARK!)
The history of these pieces is well known by collectors and this is an example of a very well done, but not factory erased Rohm blade. All early nicks fittings of course, as this was made in 1933/34 and given to all of Ernst Rohm's supporters. Nice dark wood grip with nickel eagle and perfect SA button. All fittings remain completely uncleaned and the nickel, mainly on the grip crossguards has turned a dull smokey colour. Lower crossguard has the Gau letter B for Berlin. Scabbard is undamaged , no dents and has all of the brown anodised surface coating as well as most of the lacquer, but with lots of surface scratches only to the lacquer. Unfortunately the dagger was dropped at some time and has crushed the lower ball. All scabbard screws are present. The blade is in very good shape, some surface grease marks, but I have just left it as I found it. It will probably clean up (if desired) to near mint condition. The reverse blade has had the Rohm inscription completely ground off. It’s been done well, but quite deeply, especially where the Rohm signature was and you can really see the indent in the blade metal spine! In doing so they have also removed 75% of the Eickhorn trademark. This is the very small oval type used on most, but not all early Rohm SA daggers (and after 1934 non-Rohm daggers). This trademark was used from 1933-1935.
