A POSTSCHUTZ OFFICERS DAGGER BY WEYERSBERG
One of the rarest of Third Reich daggers available. The Postschutz or Postal Protection Service, were tasked during the Third Reich era with the task of protecting the nationwide postal communications etc. The Postschutz, was a paramilitary unit of Reichspost with a mission to protect post office installations from armed attacks. They were ultimately under the control of the SS. The officers daggers were very ‘art deco’ in design and due to the limited number of officer personnel, these are rare daggers. Very similar in design to the RLB daggers. Black ebony grip etc. They also share parts with the DLV FLYERS knife (enamel swastika in crossguard). The grip has the Postschutz eagle pinned to the middle. The crossguard is in the shape of a styalised eagle, with enamel swastika in the center. All Postschutz daggers are stamped under each crossguard arm with a number one side and the letters DRP on the other.
Black painted steel scabbard has 3 nickel fittings and is fitted with a nickel chain the same as a 1st Luftwaffe dagger. The grey metal belt snap clip is marked DRGM. Scabbard has most of the original factory paint with a little lifting showing the black anodised finish underneath. The blade is wonderful and in mint condition. All crossgrain polish finish thought on both sides. Most Postschutz officers daggers are made by Weyersberg and this is no exception, with the makers oval trademark deeply etched on the reverse blade.
A very decent example indeed.
