RED CROSS ‘SAW-BACK’ DAGGER WITH ORIGINAL FROG.

One of the several daggers purchased from a private collection last week. All have not been offered to the collecting community for over 30 years. This is an extremely good example of a parade dagger carried by the German Red Cross.
I’ve always wondered why an organisation such as the Red Cross carried daggers at all, but during the 1930’s every organisation received the para-military treatment, and this obviously included thrm!
The dagger is in mint condition throughout, apart from a few spots of lifting on the scabbard paint here and there. The dull nickel finish used on the hilt and lower scabbard fittings are perfect. The chequered grip plates are mint. There is an ORIGINAL mint black leather frog which has definitely been on this dagger always. These frogs are UNIQUE to Red Cross pieces. They look like a standard bayonet frog, but are completely the wrong shape and size. No other frog fits these. The blade is in STONE MINT condition. All crossgrain polish throughout the whole length and the saw-back edge is viciously sharp! Neither this dagger or the Officers version carry a makers mark on their blades, but the mans version is stamped GES GETSCHUTZ and is found under one of the crossguard langets.
