LUFTWAFFE OFFICERS PARADE SWORD ‘FLIEGERSCHWERT’.
In addition to their daggers all Luftwaffe officers and senior NCO’s were required to have a dress parade sword. The design is similar to the 1st Pattn Luftwaffe dagger and was influenced by a much earlier European Medieval sword. The form of these swords is all the same, however as time went on they were made of different materials. Early ones are usually solid nickel but there are cast alloy types and of course aluminium versions. This one is mainly aluminium. Has a super pommel with fire gilded swastikas. A lovely Morrocan blue grip with triple wire wrap. Crossguard has very good gilded swastikas too. Scabbard has aluminium top and bottom mounts with a nice blue leather scabbard leather. The top scabbard fitting is marked with a number 235. Both scabbard rings are present, but there is no crescent hanger attached on this piece.
The nickel plated blade is in very good overall condition but does have some surface spotting. The maker in PUMA and the trademark of a PUMA head inside a diamond, is etched into the blade riccasso.
A good example of a very popular sword and priced accordingly.
