AN EARLY EXAMPLE OF A RARE SA DAGGER BY CARL SCHMIDT SOHN AG.
Early production of SA daggers in the 1930’s was hotly contested. There are over 200 separate manufacturers marks to collect! There range from the large companies, Eickhorn, SMF, WKC for example who made hundred of 1000’s between them, to small cottage industries who made 100’s.
This is one made by CARL SCHMIDT SOHN AG who are rated as 9 out of 10 on the scarcity lists. Dagger is untouched and uncleaned with all the nickel fittings having the same dull yellow nickel colour. A perfect wood grip with nickel eagle and enamel button. Scabbard has full covering of the brown anodising but has ‘freckling’ to the surface. The lower ball is slightly split at very bottom.
Lower crossguard has Wf Gau marking for Westfalia. Blade is in near mint contain with all crossgrain polish visible and good colour go the motto lettering. A very few small old fingerprint blemishes. The Carl Schmidt logo is etched into the reverse riccasso. A little church within a circle.
This is a very nice, rare maker dagger in Exc++ condition. It is priced accordingly. In MINT condition this would be £1400 or more.
