One of the more unusual daggers of the Third Reich era. Red Cross? Not a military organisation at all yet they had specific uniforms and daggers for both enlisted men and officers! Unlike nearly all the other daggers and swords, Red Cross daggers never have any makers marks on the blades, yet they appear in various manufacturers catalogues (Eickhorn, Robert Klaas). This officers example is in near mint condition with full bright nickel plated fittings and no lifting or damage visible anywhere.
It has a nice darker orange celluloid grip which has an original 42cm bullion knot tied in the accepted way. Crossguard has the oval langet which features the eagle clutching a cross and with a swastika on the breast of the eagle. The scabbard has the usual pebbled finish and the scabbard bands have ROUND suspension holes. This means NOTHING! It does not signify whether the dagger is either Red Cross or Social Welfare. ITS JUST A MANUFACTURING DIFFERENCE! Social Welfare members have different hanging straps (rectangular buckles etc). This is the ONLY difference between the two organisations. The double edged, blade is in mint condition. Attached to the scabbard are its original Red Cross hangers. These have smooth oval buckles and clips, with thin red stitching running each side of the straps. The velvet type backing material is an off-grey colour. A very nice complete dagger.
