AN EARLY ALL NICKEL ‘UNCLEANED’ LUFTWAFFE SWORD BY SMF

A firm favourite of mine, these Luftwaffe officers swords (and the 1st Luftwaffe daggers) took their design from Medieval swords, copying the pommel, grip and down swept crossguards. This is an early Luftwaffe sword with all nickel silver fittings. It has not been cleaned in a very long time, so all the nickel has turned a yellow colour with patina. The large sun wheel swastika on the pommel is particularly dark. Good dark blue Morrocan leather throughout with just a few scuffs to the grip near the pommel on one side. The grip retains its twin ‘springy wire’ wrap. A good straight scabbard and it has the original crescent shaped hanger attached to the two top rings. These are often missing and a sword, in my opinion, is not complete without it.
Nickel plated blade is virtually mint and mirror bright. The SMF ‘seated king’ trade mark is deeply etched to the riccasso along with a Waffenampt stamp. Good looking, untouched sword.
