A REAL ‘SHED FOUND’ EARLY RARE MAKER SA DAGGER WITH UNUSUAL ADDITION!!!
You just never know what you will be offered! This came from a family individual who recollects this coming back from the war via his uncle. The dagger has been in the garage tool box for MANY years and he finally decided to pass it on.
This is an early SA dagger with all nickel fittings which have gone very dark and yellow from atmospheric exposure etc. Never been cleaned!! For some reason an original brass SA buckle centre has been pinned to the middle of the grip and bent over to fit!! Mailed in place with 4 dome head tacks!!
I’ve no idea what is underneath or whether the original grip eagle is still there. The SA button is there though. There are a couple of chips to the wood grip but otherwise fine. The lower crossguard is very green with verdigris etc but you can just see the Gau mark ‘No’. The blade is in fair condition. No sharpening or rust pitting, just somewhat dull. It’s been left out of the scabbard for about 1” so thst portion of the blade is a little darker. It has an early makers mark of Ed. Ohliger which shows a hang holding a torch (?). This is actually a very rare maker and rated 9/10 for scarcity!!
Anyway, it is what it is. Hopefully it will find a new home with an appreciative collector.
