ONE OF THE BEST AND LONGEST THIRD REICH POLICE NCO’s DEGEN I HAVE OWNED.
All designed by the same person who delivered the SS officer Degen to Himmler, which I think was Paul Casberg. All these swords were introduced at the same time, around 1936, and as the police were then under the direct control of the SS, all the swords bear strong similarities. Whereas a SS officer Degen was awarded to an officer. Police parade swords were just part of the dress uniform and all police officers and nco’s were supposed to have one! This is a prime example made by Weyersberg and is in super condition. D-guard and hilt retain all the heavy nickel plating with no issues or damage. The black painted grip has the slightly smaller aluminium police eagle deeply set in the middle. Grip wood and paint are perfect. Nco’s swords, both for the police and SS did not have grip wire. There is an unusual SS type bullion portapee tied to the hilt. Shows considerable age and patina and I am certain it’s original to the piece. A very good looking knot!! The black painted scabbard has 99% original paint and no dents or damage. The MINT blade is fantastic and has the Weyersberg trademark etched to the reverse riccasso. The original white leather buffer is in place. The sword is incredibly long and measures 39.5” overall with a 32.5” blade!! A very tall policeman!! As I mentioned in the title, As I said in the title, I can’t remember owning a better one than this.
