AN EARLY 1933 SS DAGGER BY BOKER.

A recent American purchase this is an extremely decent example of what is known as a’33 SS dagger. A lot of people call them a ‘mans dagger’, which is only half right as ALL ranks of the SS wore this exact type of parade dagger until 1936. Then a specific officers dagger was introduced with twin chain suspension hangers.
This being an early piece, all metal parts, crossguards, scabbard fittings are solid nickel. The dagger has not been cleaned in many years so these have all developed a nice patina. The scabbard body has 95% of its original black ‘anodised’ finish. All screws are intact. The ebony grip has a very nice solid nickel grip eagle and enamel SS button. The grip has a medium sized chip missing from the front left side. The damage has been done a very long time ago as the exposed wood is the same colour as everything else. These ebony grips are very prone to chipping and cracking as the wood is so hard and after all these years quite brittle. It IS possible to repair these but I have decided to leave it ‘as found’
The blade is in very good order. No damage or sharpening. There is a lot of original crossgrain polish left and the motto letters are deep and clear.
The reverse riccasso carries the BOKER larger trademark. The one used after the Rohm daggers in 1934/35.
