A PROPER ‘BATTLE FLOWN’ REICHSKRIEGSFLAG WITH FULL MARKINGS.
I find flags sell very well and this particular type, the REICHSKRIEGSFLAG, is the most popular. This one is a nice size 80cm x 135cm. Rather than being in mint condition, this one has been properly flown and used. It’s a little grubby, but has no holes etc. As it’s been flown so much, the ‘flying edge’ is a little frayed all along its length. There is evidence of a small period repair. All the original multi-line stitching, which strengthens the flag, is present all along the other edges. The linen rope hem/pocket is profusely marked at both ends. Size at one end and manufacturer details at the other. Was made in Augsburg, a town west of Munich. There is also a Kriegsmarine eagle stamp, but this is quite feint.
This is a flag that has ‘been there and done it’. If only it could talk! Obviously came back as a souvenir, but it’s story has been lost to time.
