A SUPER RAD OFFICERS DAGGER + ORIGINAL STRAPS BY ALCOSO.

A very nice piece and I purchased it directly from the veterans son in Loughton, Essex. His father was in 6th Airbourne and bought it back as a souvenir after the war. Has been in the same family since then. In near mint condition it comes with its original set of brown leather straps, also in near perfect shape. RAD officers dagger made by ALCOSO come in two materials. The early ones were silver/nickel plated over an alloy (grey) base and then those made in brushed, anodised aluminium.
This is one of the earlier typed, with lovely plated fittings. These fittings have not been cleaned in a very long time, so due to the high siver content, have toned with patina. These dagger also had an original silver ‘flash coating’ over the finished surface which was meant to keep them bright and shiny! There is still quite a lot of this bright silver finish left on the dagger, especially on the scabbard edges and where it’s been protected by the crossguard. The cream celluloid grips are 99% perfect apart from a tiny 2mm crack on one edge. These grips usually crack or break in the middle around where the central screw is positioned on the reverse. This is fine. The scabbard is dent and damage free. The blade is lovely with all original polish and detail to the blade motto. There is one old and feint finger mark on one side, but VERY minor. The ALCOSO trademark is deeply etched into the reverse riccasso. As I mentioned before, the brown leather straps are in near mint condition also. A very nice complete combination.
