Apparently from the same source as the SS chained I’ve listed, this is a great example of an early SS dagger, definitely made and used from about 1933-35. It has remained in a completely untouched and uncleaned state for all these years. It therefore has deep yellow patina to the solid nickel fittings throughout. The ebony grip remains completely intact. No chips or cracks, just some surface bruising. Early solid nickel eagle and enamel SS button. The lower crossguard is stamped with a Roman II as well as a 5 digit original SS owners number 59071. This number 59071 is repeated on the scabbard throat. I have not attempted to research this individual. The original anodised scabbard shows some old light surface corrosion to the surface. Was obviously stored in a damp environment at some time. Condition is fine, just a little rough. The dagger has its original to-the-piece vertical hanger still in place. It’s in very good serviceable condition and the leather is fine. I say original as I very carefully I did it and the scabbard surface under rather has been protected by the hanger. The blade is in mint minus condition. Very nice indeed with no issues. Most of the original crossgrain polish is present and the motto is crisp and clear with background colour to the letters. The oval Ric.Abr.Herder Solingen trademark is deeply etched to the reverse riccasso. A really nice dagger with historical research possible if the number is traceable.
