A THIRD REICH PERIOD ‘JAWLESS’ LIONS HEAD SWORD BY WKC WITH KNOT.
The choice of parade swords for Wehrmacht officers during the early 1930’s was huge. Each company produced their own variations with slightly different designs. There were ‘dove head’ hilts, ‘lions head hilts’ and ones in between! This design is known as a ‘jawless lions head’ hilt, and that’s exactly what it is! A great brass cast lions head with red glass eyes but it’s made without the lower lions jaw so the D guard starts just underneath the top jaw of the lion design. All cast in brass and then gilded. This sword was probably made in the earky 1930’s and carried during the Third Reich era. It has the correct green leather with silver bullion lines knot which is worn on all Wehrmacht officers swords and this one has been on the sword a very long time!! A mint nickel plated blade with the WKC knights head logo hidden underneath the crossguard devices. A very detailed hilt with designs on the backstrap and several crossed swords etc on the langet. Nice black painted scabbard. Sword measures 36 1/2 “ overall, with a 30 3/4“ blade.
