A ‘TRANSITIONAL’ SA DAGGER BY J.A. HENCKELS- DOUBLE MARKED.

Whist not in mint condition, and priced accordingly, this is a great example of the type of SA dagger collectors now call ‘transitional’. It’s because the RZM have taken over quality control of production, but the companies are marking the blades with their trademark as well as the RZM code. This example is by J A HENCKELS and has their twins oval logo, as well as the RZM circle M7/10 1938.
This dagger forms part of souvenirs bought back by a Gunner in a mobile ant-aircraft unit Royal Artillery.
I met his daughter to collect this and other items.
The dagger is a typical RZM production with nickel plated alloy fittings. It’s lost quite a bit of the plating on the two crossguards but as the scabbard fittings are steel, 85% of the plating remains on them.Grip is perfect and a super piece of mid-brown hardwood. The SA button is perfect and the grip eagle is a nickel variety. The scabbard body still has a full coating of the factory brown paint which has just age ‘spidered’ in places.
The blade is very clean with no edge damage etc. There are a few old finger smudges to the front and reverse sides, but basically very clean. The Alles fur Deutschland motto is deep and crisp.
The reverse riccasso has the trademark etc etc.
