PERHAPS THE RAREST AND EARLIEST HITLER YOUTH DAGGER BY E.P & S!

Ernst Pack &Sonne were quite a prolific and quality dagger and sword maker throughout the Third Reich period. They produced some wonderful daggers and were responsible for the series of rare etched ‘memory of my service time’ dress bayonets. A trademark of theirs, on bayonets, was to have off-set flat headed bolts holding the grips to the metal hilts. You can identify an EP&S bayonet from 6’ away!! Prior to the RZM organising the edged weapon industry. Dagger production was pretty much unregulated. This is very obvious with Hitler Youth daggers in the early 1930’s. They all looked roughly the same, design, size etc., but manufacturers added their own little designs and ‘tweaks’ to make their product a bit different from the competition. Ernst Pack were one of those makers, and this is the HJ dagger they made early on. It’s just a little bit larger overall. Steel hilt and crossguard with a pommel similar to a dress bayonet with a ‘birds beak’ profile. The black chequered grips had a larger chequered pattern and of course they used flat headed, removable nuts and bolts to hold them on. Scabbard was identical to a normal HJ dagger but this one is not painted and has the original ‘blued’ or ‘anodised’ finish. There were also a couple of early blade versions. One without a riccasso and then one without. This has a riccasso with the Ernst Pack name stamped to the reverse.
This particular dagger has been used a lot! (as they should have been!) the edge has been sharpened and I think the profile is a little less (blade width) as it’s been used so much. All these early blades had the HJ motto ‘Blut ind Ehre’ etched to the obverse surface. This motto is all there, but a little feint due to the use etc. These are EXTREMELY rare HJ daggers and to my knowledge it’s only the 3rd or 4th I have ever owned/sold. A bit of a shame about the blade condition, but it is what it is!!!
